Burnham Changes Stance on British Museum Marbles

New UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham seems to have recanted on his position on the Parthenon (Elgin) Marbles.

It seems now he’s in a position to potentially do something about it, he’s stated that it’s a ‘matter for the British Museum.’ A far cry from his 2023 position ‘yes George Osborne should give (them) back.’

What does this tell us about the real value of culture when it stops being politically useful as a symbol and becomes an actual policy decision?
